1926, Border Treaty UK & Iraq & Turkey
Treaty between the United Kingdom and Iraq and Turkey regarding the settlement of the frontier between Turkey and Iraq; Together with notes
exchanged, Angora, June 5, 1926, with a map: 14p+map, Cmd 2679, London, HMSO, 1926. (Turkey, although defeated in the First World War, was not willing to give
up all of its Mesopotamian territories. In particular it laid claim to the Vilayet of Mosul, a rich northern province. The dispute simmered in the
League of Nations from the time of the Treaty of Laussane, July 24, 1923, which sidestepped a decision, until near the time of this treaty. Turkish and
British forces came to blows over the matter in Sept. 1924. The dispute was eventually settled by the Council of the League of Nations more or less
along the “Brussels Line” advocated by Great Britain. Text is in French and English.)
