Brissot de Warville, 1789?, Reflexions sur l'admission, ver. A, 36p.
Réflexions sur l’Admission aux Etats-Généraux, des deputes de Saint-Domingue: by J.P. Brissot de Warville, 36p, (Paris? s.n., 1789?) (Brissot was a
founding member of the Société des Amis des Noirs, a highly influential abolitionist group in France that was closely allied with the abolitionist
movement in England. The issue joined in this text was the controvery in France over the right of the delegates from Saint-Domingue to represent their
colony in the Estates General when no “people of color” were permitted among their number. The enmity that Brissot stirred up during this controversy
came back to haunt him and his allies when the planters lobby, in a moment of assendency, managed to send him and other prominent abolitionists to the
guillotine. A separate edition of this same pamphlet, with the same title page, but a somewhat expanded text, published later in the same year, is also
offered on this site. Lacks TC & index.)
