Toussaint L.-, French Army Personnel Dossier, 1795-1900
France, Ministère de la Guerre, Service Intérieur, personnel dossier; file cover bears the printed legend “Toussaint-Louverture,” followed by a
handwritten “Général de Division.” Some of the items are standard forms with handwritten entries. The file also contains material regarding the seizure of
Toussaint-Louverture (T-L) on Napoleon’s orders and his imprisonment and death. These images were digitized by LLMC from Reel #2 of the University of
Florida Library’s microfilm Saint Domingue Collection. Separate items in the file are described in rough chronological order as follows: a. Official

c. Minute from the Ministry of War relative to T-L: 3 page ms. with many overwritings and corrections, possibly dated 3 April 1900. d. Amplication from the
Secretariat General, Dept. of War explicating the directives of the Directorie, including First Consul Bonaparte, relative to the imprisonment of T-L at
Fort de Joux. The date is given as “(number illegible) thermidor, an 10”; which would date this 2-page item sometime in July/Aug. 1802. e. Single
