Rigaud, 1797, Rebutting Libel agst. People of Color
Mémoire du general de brigade André Rigaud en refutation des écrits calomnieux contre les citoyens de couleur de Saint-Domingue: A. Rigaud, 63+(1) p,
Cayes, Imp. Lemery, n.d. (1797). (The document is signed by Rigaud and dated 5 Aug. 1797. See related work by Gatreau, 1796, also offered on this
site. Lacks TOC & index. Images digitized by LLMC from Reel #3 of the University of Florida Library’s microfilm Saint Domingue Collection. Rigaud was a
leader of the mullato forces serving under Toussaint Louverture (T-L). He eventually fell out with T-L, and putting down his rebellion was one of the
major obstacles facing T-L in his drive to unite the entire colony. Rigaud himself was able to excapte with his family to france, where he kept up the
resistance to T-L among the colony’s exiled “people of color.”)
