110p, Paris, Imp. Du Bureau Central d’Abonnement a tous les Journaux, n.d. (1797) (The last page is signed: Et. Laveaux,, 20 April 1797. Etienne Laveaux,
a republican in political sympathies, was the French colonial governor of in the mid-1790s. With considerable assistance from Toussaint Louverture,
the charismatic native black general, he was victorious in defeating the Spanish and English forces seeking to exploit France’s weak colonial position.
His promotion of Toussaint to lieutenant governor was a crucial step in the latter’s rise to supreme power. This text is in the nature of an apologia
for his career and a refutation of the nationalist charge that he was instrumental in France’s loss of Saint Domingue. Lacks t.o.c. & index. Images
digitized by LLMC from Reel #2 of the University of Florida Library’s microfilm Saint Domingue Collection.)
