provenance of this roughly contemporaneous writ-ten version of the Haiti Declaration of Independence and of the oath taken by the Haitian generals in
support of independence is indicated on the final page of the document. The date given there appears to read “1 Germinal, an 12”; i.e., 22 Mar. 1804.
If, as is possible, this is a written copy of the undated print-ed Declaration of Independence, preceding title, it would provide evidence of an
earlier date for that printing.)
