Articles of a Treaty between the United States and the Cherokee Tribe of Indians, December 29, 1835, 7 Stat. 478-489. ( Articles of a Treaty between
the United States and the Cherokee Tribe of Indians. The Cherokees ceded all their land east of the Mississippi River. The treaty established the
terms under which the entire Cherokee Nation ceded its territory in the southeast and agreed to move west to the Indian Territory. Although the treaty was
not approved by the Cherokee National Council it was amended and ratified by the U.S. Senate in March 1836, and became the legal basis for the
forcible removal known as the Trail of Tears. The treaty was concluded at New Echota in the State of Georgia on December 29, 1835.)
